Monmouth County Suburb
Welcome to Wall Township, a low-density Monmouth County community near the Jersey Shore, crossed by the Garden State Parkway and home to Allaire State Park.
Wall Township is a low-density suburban township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, set between the Garden State Parkway corridor and the Atlantic beaches a short drive to the east. Its history reaches back to the earliest colonial settlements of the region: Wall was carved out of Howell Township, which in turn descended from the original 1693 Shrewsbury Township. The township once ran all the way to the ocean, and over time the shore communities of Brielle, Manasquan, Sea Girt, Spring Lake Heights, and Belmar were set off as separate municipalities, leaving Wall as the larger inland remainder. The township's defining historic asset is Allaire State Park, built around a restored 19th-century bog-iron furnace village. The Allaire Village living history museum preserves homes, workshops, and a general store from the community that grew up around James P. Allaire's ironworks, and the surrounding park offers trails, camping, and a narrow-gauge railroad. This mix of preserved history and open space shapes Wall's character as a quieter counterpoint to the resort towns on the coast. Wall's housing is overwhelmingly single-family and low-density, arranged across established suburban neighborhoods and a few commercial corridors. The Garden State Parkway, Interstate 195, and Route 34 crisscross the township, and a park-and-ride lot provides express bus service to New York City. That highway access, combined with proximity to the beach, makes Wall attractive to commuters and families who want suburban space with easy access to both New York and the Shore. The Wall Township Public Schools serve students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.
